Is our hair Butter  Good for High Porosity Hair?

Yes — and it can be especially helpful.

High porosity hair has gaps or lifted cuticles, which means it loses moisture quickly. Butters and oils can help seal moisture in and protect the hair shaft.

Why Your Formula Is Great for High Porosity Hair:

  • Mango & Murumuru Butters provide a protective seal and help smooth cuticles.
  • MCT, Jojoba & Moringa Oils nourish without making hair greasy.
  • Glycerin draws in moisture — especially useful if used in humid conditions.
  • Candelilla Wax adds some staying power and helps seal everything in.
  • Marshmallow Root & Arrowroot support softness and scalp comfort.
  • Essential Oils like rosemary, peppermint, and tea tree improve scalp health, which is key for high porosity hair that’s prone to damage.

How to Use for High Porosity Hair

  • Apply to damp or wet hair after leave-in or moisturizer to lock in hydration.
  • Can also be used as a pre-poo treatment or on ends to prevent split ends.
  • Works well with layering methods like LOC or LCO (liquid–oil–cream or liquid–cream–oil).

Is Butter Good for Low Porosity Hair?

Yes… but it depends on the butter and how you use it.

Low porosity hair has tightly closed cuticles, which makes it harder for moisture and oils to penetrate. Heavy products can easily build up on the hair instead of absorbing in.

Butters That Can Work Well (when used correctly):

  • Mango Butter – Lightweight, non-greasy, absorbs better than shea. Great for low porosity.
  • Murumuru Butter – Rich but silky, high in lauric acid (which can penetrate the hair shaft).
  • Cupuacu Butter – Humectant properties + lightweight. Also good!
  • Shea Butter – Heavy; use sparingly or avoid if your hair feels weighed down.

Tips for Using Butters on Low Porosity Hair:

  • Use on damp hair (helps trap moisture inside the strand).
  • Use lightweight blends
  • Avoid daily use — aim for 1–2x a week to avoid buildup.
  • Clarify regularly if using heavy butters or oils often.
